Are you stupid or what?"

General Zod arrives in the meantime, a little grumpy.

"Goat shit! Jor-El, why did you do that?
– No, I… Krypton is a decadent civilization: see! We produce children using the codex, and their role in society is written in their genes. I don't want that society anymore! So I sent my son, the only naturally born child in centuries, into phone number library space with the codex so he could revive a better civilization elsewhere. While you wanted the codex to repeat our mistakes, over and over again!
– Hmmm yes, then I hear you, but precisely, if all this filthy eugenics mess is in the codex and you don't agree, why did you send it with your son to "revive our civilization"?
– Ha? Um… I…
- I'd like you to explain it to me.
– Yes, no, but I… hahaha, yes! Wait! Now that you no longer have the codex, you're fooled: you can't reproduce Krypton's eugenics anywhere else! So I did well to send my son and the codex far away from you. Yes, yes, it's fine, everything makes sense. It was just to annoy you, actually.
– Hmm. Or I'd just have to find some carriers of genes from the codex to breed them. Like people from Krypton, actually. I wonder where we'll find some, considering we're on Krypton, it's a tough nut to crack.
– …no, wait, I'm sure I'll find a good reason why I threw my son into space!
- Well, what if I kill you instead?

And what was said was done, thus ridding Krypton of one of its biggest idiots. Unfortunately for General Zod, the adventure ends there, since the rest of the planet's armed forces come to tell him that attempting a coup d'état by killing people is very nasty, you bunch of scoundrels, and that therefore, he and his buddies deserve a big punishment. Punishment which is as follows: departure far from Krypton in a prison ship. Yes, you read that right: for having been very nasty, Zod and his friends are condemned to not having the right to remain on their planet which is about to explode.

Zod just thought of something: what if he'd simply gone and taken the unguarded codex and left? Oh yeah, damn.
And we're still only at the very beginning of the film. Impressive, isn't it? There's talent, and not just a little.

And indeed: barely out of reach of Zod and his friends, Krypton explodes, killing a race apparently made from Christine Bravo's DNA. So let's take the opportunity to see what's happening on Earth, a few years later.
