WordPress is open-source software maintained by volunteers. In the People of WordPress series, we highlight how WordPress is changing people's lives for the better.

This month, at WordCamp Europe, we talk to Tijana Andrejic from Belgrade, Serbia, about her journey as a fitness trainer into the WordPress world and the opportunities she's discovered as a freelancer and corporate employee.

As a professional manager with a degree in organizational science and a certified fitness instructor, Tijana is a persistent and goal-oriented person.

In 2016, Tijana left her job as a fitness trainer and plunged into the world of IT. Starting with copywriting and design, she concentrated her efforts on SEO and became an independent specialist.

Tijana recently left freelancing and took a job as a technical phone number library support specialist at a hosting company, where she discovered the benefits of working in a team. She realized that close working relationships with colleagues not only help to achieve success in business, but also accelerate personal growth.

Tijana hopes that by sharing her story, she can help others who are either just starting out in their careers or looking to change careers. She describes the opportunities she discovered in the WordPress community as a “massive epiphany,” especially the world of freelancing.
She highlights 5 things that helped her get started as a freelancer. Let’s take a look.

5 Steps to Starting a Freelance Career
What are your motives?
“Why am I doing this?” is the first question Tijana asks herself before starting something new. She believes that self-reflection and honesty allow her to correctly determine her priorities. She also weighs the reasons for such aspirations as the desire for a flexible schedule and professional growth.
