Burnout affects not only technology employees, but also companies in the sector. It has negative consequences such as: poor working environment, reduced productivity and increased sick leave, among others.

According to the Burnout Index, developed by Yerbo: 42% of technology professionals have a high risk of developing emotional exhaustion (one of the main indicators of job burnout).
In this post we tell you how burnout is affecting technology professionals and what measures employers can take to prevent it.
Technology has a positive side, as it allows time to be saved in the development of tasks thanks to the automation of activities. But it also has a negative side. Often, the worker may have the feeling of being permanently connected, not achieving the set objectives and having to learn constantly.

Job burnout is becoming more and more common. In fact, it was declared a risk factor in the workplace by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2000. The problem particularly affects technology employees who feel like leaving their company due to exhaustion.

What elements characterize job burnout?
Occupational burnout is characterized by three fundamental elements:

The reduction in motivation of the technological worker . In some cases, technology makes work more difficult and the initial excitement about the job gradually disappears. To such an extent that motivation turns into reluctance, lack of enthusiasm and intention to change jobs. In fact, according to the Burnout Index study of workers with a high risk of burnout, 42% intend to leave their current company in the next six months.
Emotional burnout . Employees stop becoming ambassadors for the company and associate it with positive emotions, and instead become detractors. The Burnout Index shows that 57% of workers at high risk of burnout are detractors of their company.
Decreased productivity . Workers feel irritated with their work and reduce their productivity. Constant connection due to technology prevents workers from reconciling work and family life. They feel frustrated. However, not only is there a lack of productivity, but also a decrease in the quality of work. Workers are exhausted, have no energy and the work they do is no longer of the same quality.
