Marc González, IM student and E-commerce Manager at TINYCOTTONS

Post by rabiakhatun785 »

Marc González has dedicated his entire career to the world of e-commerce. Studying Business and Marketing and specializing in Digital Marketing with us, he has had a successful career that includes co-founding his own company. Learn his story in the following interview.

Why did you decide to study Commerce and Marketing?
The truth is, it was purely by chance. When I finished high school, I had no idea what I wanted to do professionally, and at the time, what interested me most was photography. My intention was to train in that field, but due to a series of bureaucratic surprises, I ended up enrolling in the wrong courses and decided to study marketing somewhat on the spur of the moment. Looking back, I have to admit it wasn't such a bad move.

Right after graduating, you decided to specialize in Digital Marketing with us . What led you to choose this branch of marketing?
At the school where I studied Marketing, a former student, Bernat Tirado, came to give us a lecture on Digital Marketing. At that time, in 2009, all this peru mobile database was somewhat unknown and unusual. However, for me, who spent 80% of my time on the internet, it was clear to me that I had to direct my studies toward this area.

How did what you learned in the Master's help you in your career?
The master's degree laid an essential foundation without which I wouldn't have been able to perform well in any of the projects I've collaborated on. At that time, there wasn't as much access to information as there is now, and, as far as I can remember, there was only one center in Barcelona that offered a specialization in Digital Marketing. I had very good professors in the master's degree. Ten years later, the digital world has changed completely, yet many of their recommendations and best practices remain relevant to me, and I apply them daily.

You started working for the e-commerce company 1000bebés.com, where you handled virtually all digital marketing tasks. How was that experience, and what were the most challenging tasks?
Shortly after completing my master's degree, I was fortunate enough to join 1000bebes.com, a pure player in the childcare sector, which at the time was already an established e-commerce project in Spain. For me, it was a unique opportunity to put into practice everything I learned in the master's degree. Being an e-commerce site that had been around for several years and had a solid SEO foundation, my traffic allowed me to get almost instant feedback on any action I took. I still lacked any experience in the digital field, and this was crucial in consolidating my knowledge of digital marketing.

Shortly after joining, the opportunity arose for Dani Verge, a great friend and colleague from both the undergraduate and master's programs, to join the team. Being able to co-lead the marketing department was a wonderful and fun experience. At the time, I can't recall any more challenging assignment than another; as it was my first experience, everything in general was a challenge in itself.
