How to address the challenge of proximity in large cities?

Post by rabia829 »

The ideal goal is to live in a city that has the necessary services within a 15-minute radius.
Urban planner and professor at the Sorbonne University in Paris (France), Carlos Moreno, has developed the “15-Minute City” project.

This project, which was originally conceived to respond to the climate crisis, understands the “15-minute city” as a city with neighbourhoods, where residents can find the necessary services and products just 15 minutes from their home, on foot or by bicycle. “That is, creating self-sufficient micro-cities within the big city,” says the digital magazine Cosas de Arquitectos .

This initiative will also strengthen the business owner phone number data area's trade and services. Moreno was inspired by the work of journalist Jane Jacobs, who understood neighborhoods as social connectors and developed the concept of the "living city" around this theme in 1961.

Moreno lists the different services that this microcity must have to satisfy the needs of its citizens:

Decent housing.
Physical or digital work must be located close to home.
Stores for shopping.
Access to physical and mental health.
Culture.
Education.
The architect and teacher is hopeful about the reduction in traffic brought about by the current restrictions . Moreno also offered his opinion on the future of teleworking: “maybe it won’t be 100% digital, but there is a significant percentage that is profoundly changing the way we see work and how we use our daily time, how to have useful time, and seeing in my neighborhood how to obtain a better quality of life because I am rediscovering things that I had forgotten existed . ”

FUNIBER sponsors a wide variety of university programs aimed at offering professionals complete and up-to-date information on different urban planning challenges. One of the courses offered is the Master's Degree in Architecture and Urban Planning Projects .
